Boroughs of NYC - Best Rappers?

by Psyber Kayos

Which borough harbored the best/your favorite rappers from NYC?

Bronx got Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Big Pun, Camp Lo, Kool Keith, Swizz Beatz, Cory Gunz, KRS-One, Lord Finesse, *CL Smooth, *Slick Rick, & *Canibus (barely).

One of Bronx's most skilled

Big Pun: R.I.P.

Brooklyn put out Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Maino, Sticky Fingaz, Memphis Bleek, Sean Price, Saigon, Big Daddy Kane, Busta Rhymes, GZA, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Fabolous, Papoose, Joell Ortiz, O.C., AZ, Ill Bill, GangStarr, Phife Dawg, M.O.P., Pumpkinhead, Masta Ace, Keith Murray, Rise, Foxy Brown, Necro, Junior M.A.F.I.A., Killah Priest, MC Lyte, & Lil Mama.

Queens gave us Cormega, Stack Bundles, A Tribe Called Quest, Grafh, 50 Cent, Black Sheep, Organized Konfusion, Nas, Kool G Rap, Mobb Deep, LL Cool J, Pharoahe Monch, Consequence, Fredro Starr, Lloyd Banks, Ja Rule, Lost Boyz, Nicki Minaj, Large Pro, Run-DMC, & Styles P.

Staten Island gave us the Wu-Tang Clan and Cappadonna.

Manhattan gave us Big L, Ma$e, Cam’Ron, Bloodshed, Juelz Santana, Loon, Jim Jones, JR Writer, Kurtis Blow, Immortal Technique, Jae Millz, Cannibal Ox, Charles Hamilton, Max B, MIMS, Puff Dady, and *Joe Buddens & *2Pac (though neither rep NY).

Dave Chappelle: "That n*gga got some dolphin teeth!"

Other notable areas:
Yonkers – DMX, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch
Long Island – Rakim, MF DOOM, Public Enemy, Aesop Rock, EPMD, De La Soul

Personally, I’d take Brooklyn. Papoose, Busta, Mos Def, Gang Starr, Masta Ace = Greatness. Of course Queens and Brookyln are stacked because they’re the biggest, but Manhattan doesn’t look too bad if you include the two rappers who don’t claim it. Queens and Manhattan do get a strike against them for harboring Max B and Ja Rule in my book though.

*Note: If you’ve got no favorite rappers from NY, then that’s fine. If you want to go and yell "HOUSTON GOT THE BEST BITCH" or "ALL GOOD RAPPERS FROM THE SOUTH," feel free. But the point of this blog is to showcase New York’s talent, inform some of the clueless, and to see which New York rappers get the most love. So who’s your favorite?

“Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in the East Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City.” Tupac: Resurrection.
16 June 1971, East Harlem, Manhattan, New York City – imdb
“His mother enrolled him in the 127th Street Ensemble, a theater group in the Harlem
section of Manhattan” – Tupac Shakur biography

I’m pretty sure he was born, and spent time in Manhattan. I’m not a “lier” as you say.

Also, at least you bother to know something about Kurtis Blow Flinky. You’re a bit less ignorant than I thought, although you’re still plenty ignorant for the other parts of your comment.

Great comments. New York City harbored the legends! Pac and B.I.G.? Jay and Nas? DMX & 50? Only top rapper they haven’t harbored in the last few years is Lil’ Wayne (Yes, you knew Lil’ Wayne would show up in the comments) NY standup!

But you can’t even forget the mid-west. Especially with

Niggas like: Eminem, Royce da 5’9, Lupe, Common, Kanye, Twista, J Dilla, Bump J, Rhymefest,Kid Cudi,Obie Trice

Midwest kills the game with niggas that are creative, and have very distinctive styles.

Brooklyn got the best spitters. But over all New York has always been lyrical. And Flinky is right, Pac is from the Bronx not Manhatten!

callmehdre, unfortunately jim jones is from Harlem, which is a neighborhood in manhattan spanning from 155th st to central park, north south and the hudson river to west side highway, east west. good blog, but rappers tend to rep where they got schooled in the game and grew up. “let me tell you where i grew up at, threw up at…….where cats got their face screwed up at, BROOKLYN” Foxy Brown.
